Advantages: cheap, smooth, good packaging

Disadvantages: nondescript aroma

Kenco - a name associated with fine coffee. Rappor - a name suggesting intimacy, conviviality, warmth and snuggling up in front of the fire. Then you look at the price tag and realise that this is a cheap instant coffee! So is it just fancy advertising?

Well, the coffee certainly looks inviting. A red container, with a label suggesting freshly brewed coffee. And a lovely little quote on the side telling us this coffee is packed with roasty richness and silky smoothness!

So with anticipation of a dramatic cut in the money I spend on coffee, I popped the paper wrapper with my spoon and dipped it inside. The smell of the granules suggests strength, and the coffee is reasonable strong, so don't heap your teaspoon if you don't like strong coffee.

I take coffee with milk, and it produced a nice light brown colour, though the granules took some stirring to dissolve fully. The coffee tastes distinctly smooth on first sip, with a slight bitterness which is actually quite pleasant. Further drinking reveals a suitably pleasant taste all the way down the mug, and a pleasant rather non-secript aroma. It's a very nice coffee as instant coffees go and certainly doesn't have the sharpness of Nescafe's blend. And I shall probably be buying some more ... and saving a few more pennies too!
