Advantages: Good strong rich coffee, at a reasonable price.

Disadvantages: Don't drink it late at night - or you won't sleep!

Anyone who knows me will know that I love my coffee - I confess to drinking far too much of the stuff, and always have done, but over the years I have regulated my caffeine intake a little, and have decaf in the evenings so that I don't get the midnight shakes anymore!

I do drink a lot of coffee though, over a dozen mugs of it a day, so over the years I have looked for decent coffee that doesn't cost a fortune. I love fresh coffee but the faff of cleaning out a cafetiere means that I still opt for instant as being quick, clean and easy........

Over the last few years, coffee consumption has become far more fashionable, with chains of coffee houses opening in every available store space, and coffee carts appearing on street corners to provide office workers with their daily latte fix...this also means that the coffee manufacturers have had to introduce a wider range to the supermarket shelves to satisfy the new breed of coffeeholics!

Kenco have introduced a number of new freeze dried coffees to their range over the last two or three years, and my favourite "every day" coffee is their "Rich Roast" (which until recently was called "Really Rich") - it is the one in the Dark Blue lidded jar........

For me, this is a deliciously smooth rich coffee without excessive bitterness. It is strong, and therefore ideal when you need to wake up in the morning, and get yourself going before work.......and yet is smooth enough to enjoy throughout the day. I don't drink caffeinated coffee after about 5pm otherwise I can't sleep, and so this jar goes firmly back in the cupboard at that time because the intensity of it, although delicious, is too much for me at that time of the day, so I switch to the Kenco Decaff instead, which is quite acceptable.

Kenco claim that 75% of the coffee beans they source are from Rainforest Alliance Certified Farms, and that their jars are composed of 35% recycled glass, so they are doing their bit for the environment - they also sell this coffee in refill bags so you can simply fill up your existing jar, which helps reduce waste, although in my experience, the monetary cost is no different, so people may just pick up another jar rather than consider the benefits of a refill bag.

Kenco is not the cheapest on the market, with a jar of this Rich Roast coffee selling for the best part of £3 for 100g. However, it is often on offer in the supermarkets, especially the bigger jars, with 50% extra free or Buy 2 for £x enabling you to get your coffee fix at a reasonable price.

Certainly, when you compare the cost of "Coffee Shop" coffee with a jar of Kenco Rich Roast, it works out at a very cheap way of enjoying a decent drink.
