Advantages: Wonderful, sweet, drinkable cider.
Disadvantages: A little pricey and sometimes too drinkable...
I first experienced Kopparberg Pear Cider after a trip to IKEA (where they have it in their food bit/next to the tills). Now, I quite like cider, but this is a different kettle of fish.
Firstly, if you've ever had cider before, you're probably expecting this to be quite tart. It really isn't. It's very sweet, but without being overly sugary, and does taste of ripe, juicy pears (at least it does to me). It's a very drinkable cider, especially when served chilled in a glass with ice, so it's probably just as well it's only 4.5% ABV (Magners etc are stronger)! It really doesn't have an alcoholic taste - it's more like a pint of soft drink, really refreshing.
It has a light (without being weak) taste, that means it can happily be served with a meal. It won't overwhelm what you're having. It makes a good accompaniment to a barbeque.
Kopparberg normally comes in bottles, which are usually seen in bars or cans. For a bottle of Kopparberg prices (in Edinburgh at least) seem to start from around £3.20 in pubs. A bottle of this lovely stuff contains 500ml, as do the cans. The cans were on sale in IKEA for 95p last time I was there (admittedly about 2 months ago), so that's really good value, but your local Tesco will have them on sale for just under £2 a can. This does mean it's quite pricey when compared to other drinks and ciders, but I feel it's definitely worth it.
This is one of my favourite drinks, and I highly recommend it, even to people who don't drink that much.
Summary: Sweet, refreshing cider, perfect for summer.
