Advantages: refreshingly different
Disadvantages: don't expect it to be cheap
I was first introduced to the Swedish cider of kopparberg when i worked at wetherspoons three years back now and i have not looked back since! The perfect summer drink best enjoyed with ice, not too much mind! Kopparberg have produced many flavours, the most popular by far has been Pear. Other flavours include mixed fruits, blueberry and apple.
Kopparberg has experienced rapid growth in the UK in recent years is now on most supermarket shelves as well as being in most trendy bars (and the average pub) as a unique alternative to most other drinks. Unfortunately the prices in bars do differ a great deal but kopparberg tends to be around the £3.50 - £4.00 range which is a bit more than the average pint. However, i would recommend paying the little extra for this drink because, if you havent tried this before, i guarantee you will find it unlike any other drink.
Everyone i know has ejoyed this drink once i have introduced it to them and most of them now have it as their regular drink. It is perfect if you don't want to get too drunk but are worried about looking silly in front of friends, it is one of a new breed of unisex drinks which makes neither sex look too girly or too tom-boyish. As mentioned earlier, i believe this drink to be best enjoyed with ice in the summer, preferably outside in a nice beer garden like how i once spent an afternoon for one of my birthdays, after about 7 i still didnt feel drunk. So this is perhaps not recommended if you're looking for something that tastes strong, despite it being 4.5% you can barely taste the alcohol (which in itself can be a little dangerous!).
The only disadvantages of this drink that i can think of are that it can be a little too sweet for some people's palate yet most people complain about the high prices of kopparberg and bottled cider in general. In a world where bottled cider is suddenly a trendy drink just because you can have it in a branded glass with ice (Magners has been around for years, it's only since the 'ice gimmick' has it become big outside of Ireland) it is always going to be a little overpriced compared to some drinks.
In general i love this drink and it is perfect to match people with pints to and perfect to lazily enjoy on a nice sunny day, just relaxing. A stylish bottle and brand, expect to see alot more of this. I would have predicted the prices to go down eventually with higher demand, however, i expect kopparberg would like to keep its premium reputation and keep price levels the same.
Summary: best enjoyed outdoors and something to introduce your friends to
