Advantages: Tastes excellent and keeps well

Disadvantages: None.

I'm not lactose intolerant, but my partner is, and she came across this milk (amusingly they have to call it a 'dairy drink' although it is only milk with added enzymes to break down the lactose) almost by accident in the supermarket. She was looking at the various grain milks (soya, oat, rice) and saw a family buying loads of cartons of this stuff further down the aisle.

She had never given it a second thought thanks to the great big picture of a cow stamped on the front - tends to signify milk! Perhaps they are shooting themselves in the foot with this one, although it also signifies their main selling point; the grain milks are ok but they tend to be a bit oily (vegetable oil being added) and floury. This tastes of milk because that's pretty much what it is.

It works perfectly well with her digestion, so the main purpose of it is achieved. It's also good for adding to tea and coffee, where you can often taste the grain milks far too easily (although I do like soya hot chocolate).

It also seems to keep well. The cartons are similar to screw-top orange juice cartons (they also have a flip top) so they stack well in the fridge and keep things fresh, and I don't know whether it's the lack of lactose or something else but it seems to last longer than ordinary milk. The UHT version tastes alright also.

One word of caution though - if you do eat dairy but your partner likes this stuff, don't switch over entirely - you can lose your ability to make lactose enzyme if you avoid dairy completely even if you don't normally have an intolerance.

Summary: It's milk, but minus the lactose.
