Advantages: I can drink milk at last (yey)
Disadvantages: Expensive, only good in small amounts
**What is it?**
Lactofree is milk, pure and simply, but it also happens to be 99.9% lactose free, the sugar in milk that causes allergic reactions in many lactose intolerant people.
It is the UK's ONLY lactose free product range on the market, and a relatively new addition to our supermarkets, so new in fact it can be hard to find and often sells out quickly.
**How does it work?**
Well they filter the milk to remove half the lactose, they then add lactase, an enzyme that breaks up lactose, and frequently lacking in allergy sufferers, to the milk to break up the lactose and make it easily digestible.
**How does it taste**
Lactofree milk tastes like milk, in fact my partner prefers the fresh taste of lactofree milk to 'normal' milk. It is clean and refreshing and if you have ever tasted (or seen) soya milk, you will understand when I say it is also WHITE (not yellow). Unlike other dairy free alternatives, it really does act and taste like normal milk, for example I used it to make angel delight and it actually set, if you use soya, it stays liquid.
It comes in full cream as well as semi-skimmed although both carry a steep price tag of around 1.30 per litre.
**Does it work**
In reasonable amount I find lactofree milk to be just fine, however, with my overly sensitive stomach, the full cream variety and excessive amount of the semi skimmed will upset my stomach. But if i just want some in a cup of coffee, tea or bowl of cereal, it really does work.
I used to take lactase enzyme tablets to try and quell the reactions to dairy, but the result as not anywhere near as good as this. Although if you combined them, it might be even better.
**In Conclusion**
An inspired product, when i first saw it on TV I was out there in seconds looking for it, we (lactose intolerant people) have been waiting for years for a product like this, but fear not, your wait is over, you CAN enjoy dairy products (if you can afford it).
Summary: If you are lactose intolerant then this is for you
