Advantages: easy to drink, cheap

Disadvantages: weak,

i like cider. I like wine. I love this. Coincidence? well not really. You see, this is technically a cross between the two. It is a perry, which drinks similarly to a sparkling wine, but is actually a drink made from fermenting pears, in the same way that apples are fermented to make cider. Clever, isn't it?

The bottle -

It has recently had a makeover, and is no longer sold in the bottle that you see in the picture. It is now slightly thinner bottle, which is good because the larger bottle is very bulky. the logo is similar to the old one, as the company was told by its customers that they liked it. The label around the neck is gone, and the top is covered in black plastic, with blue and gold swirls on it. It is a screw top bottle.

Basic facts -

this is classified as being a slightly sparkling perry. this basically means that it is a pear made wine/cider that is effervescent in nature. It is made by Halewood international ltd, and is one of the most popular drinks of the variety. The pears that are used for this are not widely found in the UK. In fact the majority of these are to be found in just 3 counties!

The drink itself is pale in colour. Very refreshing in nature, it tickles the tongue. Not really tasting of pears, it is understandable why people do not know why people do not know what a perry is. I would say it is more like a packet of starburst (they will always be opal fruits to me!). Similar in many ways to lambrusco, it is a refreshing drink. Also similar to lambrusco, it is dirt cheap. A 75cl bottle is under £1.50 in tesco, and a 150cl bottle is £2.18!!. It ways in at a lightweight 7.5% alcohol, which is both good and bad. Good in that it makes for a drink that is easy on the way down, bad in that it allows you to drink copious amounts of it (which can make for it being not so easy on the way back up!).

This has led to a bad press for the drink. It has become what i would call a 'hoodies' best friend. Kids and thugs love this stuff, because they can buy it with the pennies they shake out of a young childs pockets, as they turn them upside down.
However, this is a problem of society as a whole, and not the drinks fault. And with all that being said, it is a fruity little number that is easy on the pallette, and easy on the pocket. I would suggest this to students, people with jobs alike (lol!!).

When all is said and done, it is worth a try. cheap as chips, and not offensive in the slightest. try it next time you are out. it is readily available in both off-liscences and supermarkets nationwide. you cant really go wrong (except when you go to get up and realise the 150cl bottle is nearly all gone, and you felt fine until you got up, but now your not so fine, your actually quite drunk, and never realised. But i digress.....).
Seriously, though. Grab a bottle next time, and give it a whirl. You maybe wont love it, but i can gauruntee that you wont not like it! ( i have just confused myself!). G

P.S. It comes in various varieties. These are:-

Original
Diet
Cherry
Baby
Cream
Bubbly
Bucks Fizz

But trust me here. Stick to the original. The others are much more sickly sweet. Bye Bye. G

Summary: easy to drink, and cheap drink, popular with all ages ( even those who are not old enough to drink.)
