Advantages: cheap, light, distinctly cherry flavoured
Disadvantages: a bit too sweet, goes flat really quick
FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS REVIEW I AM REVIEWING CHERRY LAMBRINI
I enjoy a glass of wine in the evening now and again but sometimes a normal red or white wine is a bit heavy/ strong or both, so I purchased this a while ago on a friends recomendation.
Currently costing £2.15 for 75cl at Tesco (when not on offer) this is a lot cheaper than most half decent bottles of wine. In a glass bottle with screw top lid this cherry flavoured perry is 5.5% volume alcohol.
This is an english drink manufactured by merseyside company Halewood International, and describes itself as a "slightly sparkling cherry flavoured fruit wine" - it contains 2% cherry juice to give it the flavour.
First of all, this is not really a wine conosseuirs' drink - it is cheap and to a degree you do get what you pay for. Having said that, this is not really wine but perry and is made from pears. It probably resembles more of a cherry flavoured pear cider than wine - if you understand what I mean here!!
However as a change from a heavier red wine or strong tasting white wine this does make quite a refreshing change for me. There is a distinctly cherry taste to it - so no good if you dislike cherry! and it is slightly sparkling so can have a rather embarrasing effect if downed quickly (obviously I am not talking from personal experience here-honest!)
The main problem I find is it is a little to sweet so I personally could drink no more than 1 glass - the fizz does not last very long either as it normally quite flat by the time I am drinking my second glass.
Nothing like a decent merlot but it has its place and it is cheap!
Summary: Not a wine - pleasant enough taste
