Advantages: Cheap, sweet taste
Disadvantages: Not very strong
Lambrini has a reputation for being a cheap and nasty wine that's of very low quality and a drink that "chavs" buy in bulk. This reputation isn't particularly earned, though - it's a nice tasting, very cheap alternative if you're on a poundstretcher budget but still fancy getting a bit merry. In supermarkets, they tend to cost around £1.6 for a 750ml bottle, which of course, is a steal.
I think people just get put off by the name and reputation, because I'm sure if people gave it a blind taste test, they'd probably say that it was very nice indeed! It has a sweet tang that's not as dry and strong as a lot of other wines - instead it is more like a soft drink-tasting version of wine, that obviously still has that alcoholic kick! Of course, with the low price tag, you're not getting a particularly robust drink though, and it is only 7.5% alcohol volume, meaning it might take a bottle or two to get a nice buzz off of it.
When you open the bottle and begin to pour it, you'll be hit with a very mild aroma that's notably more muted than "quality" wines. What's really nice, though, is how the drink fizzes and bubbles as you pour it - I expected that it wouldn't be so effervescent as it's a cheaper alternative, but it fizzes away like nobody's business! This is all the more surprising considering the very light taste, which slides down your throat with the utmost ease, and is in fact a lot more refreshing than a lot of wines I've tried.
It's not easy to recommend this is if you're looking to share it with a lot of people, as it won't really give you a "buzz" that way, but if you're having a night in on your own, or if you're doing a "bring your own bottle" party, two bottles of this will go down very nicely indeed!
Summary: A weak but tasty wine
