Laphroaig 10 Year Old is an all-malt Scotch Whisky from the island of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. Laphroaig, pronounced "La-froyg", is a Gaelic word meaning "the beautiful hollow by the broad bay". Sounds great don't you think! This Whisky has a beautiful golden amber colour to it, darker than some of ... Read the complete review

When I was first passed a modest dram of Laphroaig (pronounce it "La-froyg") at a party, I must admit to being a little intimidated. But then it was probably my first encounter with a single malt Scotch wisky, and that not being my tipple at the time after a little taste I politely turned it down. Maybe five years later, and ... Since I recently wrote about one of my favourite malt whiskies I thought I would carry on, on that theme and write about another that is a huge favourite of mine. Laphroaig (pronounced La-froyg) is available in ten year old, 30 year old and 40 year old, each one is lovely but I am for now reviewing the ten year old version. From first ... Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, there was a country called America that decided to slap a prohibition on alcohol. (Shocking I know, but terrible things happen in fairy tales. There's a happy ending I promise). This was a very sad time for the country, and many people wailed and beat their breasts in protest. However, one brand of ... Read the complete review

Yes, it's a grand drop of scotch indeed. I do like a good single malt and I have tasted a few I must admit. I have a distinct preference for the classic malts but sometines divert to savour others. Over the years I have aquired a taste for the rather stronger flavour of Islay malts and one week while shopping in Tesco, just before ... Read the complete review

Laphroig is one of the most richly flavoured whiskies found in the world, as some of you know it is not my personal favourite but it rates right up there. The standard bottle most commonly found in the shops is the ten-year-old whisky and it retails for around the twenty-pound mark. It is fermented to 40% volume and is available in 70cl ... Laphroaig is one of the 3 most common and best malts from the island of Islay, the other two being Lagavulin and Bowmore. It is quite different from other Islay malts due to its highly distinctive flavor. Laphroaig smells strongly of alcohol, something most people label as a "phenolic" aroma. Laphroaig is one of those ... Read the complete review

Pirates would love this stuff. Read on. I’ve only ever experienced the 10 year distilled Laphroaig whiskey and I can’t get enough of it (because it’s so expensive round these parts). You either love this whiskey or hate it. I’ve sampled my fair share of commercially successful whiskeys such as Bells and Grants ... Read the complete review

I?m quite new to Malt Whisky and I've only really tried four or five different ones but this is the best. Gosh but it's good stuff! The key word here is character; Laphroaig has got it in droves and makes Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich seem almost weedy by comparison. I?d even put it above Highland Park 18 year old though I think I might be ... Read the complete review

Yep, it's Peaty. In fact, it tastes like the crew of Blue Peater emptied the earth from the Italian Sunken Garden into the vat. It's so peaty, you can burn it on your fire to keep warm. This is a seriously nice whisky, but if you like a nice fruity number, you're better off with something else (actually, try ... Read the complete review

Now the Islay Malt Whiskys are definitely an acquired taste. I cannot think that there is any way that a 'whisky virgin' can drink a glass of Laphroaig and do any thing but make a face in the same way as they would of presented with a dose of cod-liver oil. However, there is no way that any case can be taken under The Trade ... Read the complete review
