Advantages: The aroma of Roma

Disadvantages: It's addictive

I love this coffee. For me, the roasted chocolatey-nutty aroma filling the kitchen makes Lavazza Rosso the only coffee likely to bring a smile to my face on a gloomy rainy morning. This coffee is rich and full-flavoured without the bitterness you sometimes get with espresso coffees.

It's suitable for coffee machines and cafetieres but I like it steaming and gurgling away in an old Italian stove-top espresso pot of a morning. Then the hardest decision that early in the day is whether to have the wicked caffeine kick from a tiny cup of intense, dark espresso where you can really taste the rich, roasted flavour (and it has that little beige swirl of "crema" on the top - the sure sign of real espresso that Italians swear by), or whether to go for a big comforting mug of latte.

Personally, I'm a latte fiend and I've tried various brands of coffees over the years, some very expensive, but none as good in the flavour department as Lavazza Rossa, which I now stick to religiously.

It's great value - a 250g pack lasts for a couple of weeks and costs about £2.75, although I usually go for the twin packs (not the huge packs because the coffee stays freshest for about 3 weeks after the pack is opened, then starts to lose flavour). The twin pack of 2 x 250g will usually be about £4.75. That's a lot of happy mornings for the money!

Summary: Rich, dark, smooth with a mellow flavour
