I love pop and I particularly love Iron Bru! Last week my folks went to Lidl to a little bit of shopping for a change and picked this up for me and it's especially made for Lidl of course and costs around 45p a bottle which I think is great value and I was well excited to try it!
The Packaging:
2L clear plastic bottle that has a slight curve to the middle of it for ease of handling. It has a blue screw on/off plastic lid to the top of it and an orange and silver label around the bottle. On the front of that I'm told it is Freeway Iron Bru and that it contains 103 calories per 250ml serving and that it is suitable for Vegetarians. Other information listed on the bottle includes a full nutritional rundown chart, warnings and storage advice is listed as are the ingredients and contact details for Lidl are given. Nice enough bottle and I do like the fact that clearly stated on the bottle there is a warning about Sunset Yellow (Ponceau 4R) may have an adverse effect on activity and attention on children!
The Drink Itself:
Transparent and a bright orange I simply love this drink!
Open it up and you get a small fizz noise and a waft of a very sweet smell. Taste wise well it tastes like iron bru really! None distinctive in flavouring I always think it's a little on the fruity side but can never distinguish which fruits! This isn't a highly fizzy drink even when first opened or poured but it does have a bit of fizz and even though I had opened my bottle and stored it in the fridge over 4 days I never felt that it went flat.
This is seriously a sweet version of iron bru though. Don't get me wrong it doesn't taste crammed full of artificial sweeteners or anything like that but it does taste highly and naturally sugary and although I love this drink I wouldn't call it a thirst quencher as such as it does leave a slightly sour and tinny after-taste after consuming it
Verdict:
I wouldn't dare give this to children but me, well I like it but that's because I like sugary drinks really and I'm not watching my weight. If you are you may not wish to consume 103 calories on a glass of pop!
