Advantages: Unique taste and look
Disadvantages: A lot of sugar
I absolutely love Lilt. When I used live in Belgium, I would crave it, as they don't sell it there. They don't seem to sell it anywhere but the UK and the USA. (Let me know if I'm wrong about that)
Lilt is made by the Coca-Cola Company who produces Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite and many other fizzy drinks. Lilt was first introduced in 1970.
Lilt comes in three different flavours. Lilt Pineapple & Grapefruit, Lilt Mango & Mandarin and Banana Peach Flavour. I've never seen Banana Peach Flavoured Lilt in the UK so maybe this Lilt is only for the American Market..
Also, there's a Diet version of Pineapple & Grapefruit and Mango & Mandarin Lilt.
The slogan of Lilt used to be Totally Tropical on the front of the can and on the back 'for total taste JUST CHILL! Contains 5% pure pineapple and grapefruit juices- let your mouth get tropical and your mind get chilled" but it doesn't have that on its bottles and cans anymore.
The can/bottle
You can buy Lilt in a 330ml can and 500ml and 2L bottles. 330 ml can costs between 30-40p, 500ml bottle costs between 70-90p and 2L bottles cost between £2.19-2.99. You can buy them at most supermarket and corner shops.
The packaging
The can has a white silver background with Pineapple in yellow, grapefruit in orange, Lilt in a dark green with underneath it fruit crush in a light green. With a small sun and palmtree leaves at the top of the words.
The 500ml and 2L come in green plastic bottle with the same label as the can.

Taste, smell and look
It doesn't taste exactly like you would expect to it to taste. You can definitely taste the grapefruit but the pineapple is just hidden. It's very refreshing especially when it's been in the fridge and it's a hot summer day. (not that we have many of those) It smells tropical and fruity. It's yellow/white in colour.
The reason why I drink it sometimes is when I was a drink at night that doesn't contain Caffeine. I don't like Fanta that much so there's Lilt and Vimto that's left for me to choose and Lilt is not like by all the family so when I do get home, there's still some left in the fridge.
It can also can be a great mixer to go with rum or vodka. Much cheaper than get those alcopops. Just a bottle of Lilt and some alcohol and you're off.
Overall
It's one of my favs after Cola. Worth a try if you haven't had it before. Go on you might be surprised.
Summary: Unique tropical drink

- 06/10/05 I'm not keen on the grapefruit and pineapple one, but love the mango one. Can't find it anymore though my Tesco's dont stock it anymore. I have seen the banana one in Tesco, but again not too keen on that. Good review. |
