Advantages: Smelled good.

Disadvantages: Poor taste, too sweet, sticky mouth after drinking (I could go on)

Lipton`s iced tea and many other iced teas for that matter have been around for a long time but they were never a product I thought I would particularly enjoy so I had never tried any of them until this weekend (29/03/08). The iced tea was offered to me at a friends home where I had stayed following a party the previous evening, being that almost everyone else was having one I tried it.

The Lipton iced tea served up to me was of the lemon variety (I believe it comes in three other flavours). Now the thought of cold tea actually seemed quite repugnant to me so I had no idea why I was sitting here with a glass of it in my hand but I raised it to my mouth and took my first sip. More lemony than tea like was my first impression then as I sipped again the tea taste came through a bit stronger and it was at this point that the drink was quickly put down and not touched again.

I guess this drink is an acquired taste because I do enjoy a cup of tea but it has to be hot and sweet for me. Although the general consensus that day was if you like tea you will like this they were clearly wrong.

You now have my opinion on the tea so I will endeavour to explain the product to you now. Although called iced tea it is of course just cold tea which many do serve with ice. I would normally when doing a review give mention to the packaging (bottle) that the product comes in but as I never saw it I cannot.

THE AROMA

The scent of the tea when I lifted the glass to take a drink was actually quite nice, it smelled like a freshly poured cup of tea but the cold feeling in my hands as I held it made sure that I knew it was not a normal cup of tea in my hand. I could also smell the lemon from the tea but it was much less noticeable than the tea scent itself. Aroma 7/10

TASTE

Now I could just say awful but I will go into it a bit more for you. As I mentioned earlier the initial taste was more of lemon than tea and the initial lemon taste was quite nice. The tea taste came through and weirdly enough if it had been hot it would have been nice but the coldness made it weird and for me horrible.

I just could not get my head round the fact I was drinking tea that was anything other than piping hot. It felt like I was drinking a cup of tea that someone had left to go cold and maybe that is what was putting me off but over all it was a poor experience for me. Taste 2/10

PRICE AND AVAILABILLITY

Having never purchased this before I had to do a bit of research to bring you this information, you can buy Lipton iced tea from Sainsbury in 500ml bottles for 83p or in 1.5 litre bottles for £1.10 so obviously the bigger bottle is much better value for money. The price will undoubtedly vary from store to store so if you want the best price then shop around of course. I think on the availability point this stuff can be found fairly easily in supermarkets but it seems much less so in local stores.

As well as not enjoying this product personally I think that the claim Lipton make about it being a refreshing thirst quenching drink is a bit off course as I thought it was rather sweet and left my throat and mouth a bit sticky like a fizzy juice does. So all in all better avoided in my view!

Thanks for reading!

Lipton, bleah! Too bitter and weak tasting for me. I don't mind iced tea on a hot day, very American thing really... but I actually don't usually use black tea. Green tea and fruit blends like raspberry are lovely on ice though, very refreshing and clean tasting. I drink hot tea right up until the temperatures start hitting 26 C or higher. To me, the difference between hot or cold tea is very similar to having hot or iced coffee, and iced coffee is Not for everyone. Great write up here, nice use of the senses to evaluate the product. wishing you laughter

I am with you on this one. Give me a hot cuppa any day with milk and sugar. Although my son does like the peach variety.
