Advantages: Lovely and tastey , Great if you are on a diet!!
Disadvantages: Slightly dearer that a draught lager but worth it!
I was so pleased when I looked this item up in the Dooyoo list and saw it there, as I really wanted to write about this beer. On Saturday lunchtime we decided to pop into one of the local Wetherspoons for a quick rest in between doing the different shopping runs ( I know it's madness but you can get good buys if you shop about!). Well it was a lovely day so we said we would have a beer in the beer garden. With hubby having his usual Ruddles and I thought I would have a chilled lager.
Well you could have knocked me down with a feather, as he came out grinning at me with a very strange shaped bottle of beer for me. It was a Lucky Beer which is in a green glass bottle shaped into the shape of a very fat Buddha. Well you might not think much of this, but I have been collecting little Buddha's over the last couple of years from large wooden ones for the garden to tiny silver keyring ones so this made my day!!
Well it was a different drink as this is an Asian style lager with a very distinct taste to it. It is brewed in China and bottled there also. As I said before it comes in a green glass bottle with a red metal lid which will need a bottle opener to take it of, you will notice that on top of the red lid there is a picture in white of a Buddha.
I poured some of this beer into a glass and could see that it was a lovely light golden colour with a good head on it. The colour reminded me of a Coors lager, on putting the glass towards your mouth your nose will pick up the smell,it being not much different to most of the others you can buy, a typical largery smell which is quite stong but not as strong as some of the lagers.( It didn't have that camel house smell if you know what I mean).
The head settles very quickly leaving you with a very smooth easy drinking beer which isn't at all very gassy
I'm not an expert on lagers or beers, but this does taste good and doesn't leave a strong after taste in your mouth so would be nice if drank with a meal as it wouldn't spoil it. This beer has been made from rice flakes, malted barley and Czech Saaz hops.
This beer/lager is 4.8 Alcholol ( I'm not sure if it is a beer or lager is there a difference?) so not too high and has just come on sale in all Wetherspoons and Lloyds bars for £1.99 in a 330ml bottle, as this is one of the new beers for the Autumn.
They say that you should rub the fat Buddhas belly as it will give you luck, I won't be rubbing it again after that afternoon!
On going to the website I did like the way they were selling it with the sentence" Lucky Beer is to be sipped, slurped and is for Good times, Bad times or just average times. when your alone, out on a date or kicking back with your mates. Lucky is Liquid Gold" which I would agree with!
I also found out that Orlando Bloom loves this beer and buy's it by the crateful!!
A good 5 stars from me!!
Summary: I enjoyed drinking this and will try another one next time I'm in there!
