I tend to buy this when I'm feeling tired and sleepy and I just need that extra kick with more energy levels. This is a high glucose content drink, so really, it will give some boost in energy to wake you up, but obviously it's not meant to last long. I have had other high sugar drinks before, and the effect is the same, usually very short term, which means I have to keep drinking it.
However, having said that, with Lucozade sometimes I find the effects can last a longer than expected. Looking at the ingredients I've noticed that it also contains caffeine, this, I'm actually quite worried about. It's almost like drinking coffee, and you are actually relying on the caffeine to stay awake, it's so easy to get hooked and have a dependency on it. I find that I often feel worse the next day and also look a bit drained, though I am suspicious I think it may be due to the caffeine. I'm sure the Lucozade from several years ago didn't contain caffeine...?
As the apple version, I personally find that this is the best 'flavour' out of the range. The apple feels very rounded and crisps and much better than other fizzy apple drinks that I've tried, like Fanta or Tango. The colour is quite a surprise, as normally, it's an unappealing browny beige colour with apple drinks, here the colour is much lighter, almost colourless and I much prefer this for an apple drink, as it represents the apple in its fresh state rather than the stale state when it goes brown.
I always carry another bottle of water with me, as Lucozade apparently isn't suitable for replacing lost fluid during diarrhoea, so I'm assuming that it's not good in general as a fluid drink anyway. Plus, I feel it's important to drink lots of water with this, so to clear the caffeine out of the system. Lucozade is probably very similar to Red Bull, only maybe it doesn't give you 'wings'but a pair of hyperactive legs...
The bottle comes in two sizes - 380ml, and 500ml, which costs about 78p and 99p respectively, with the latter being so much better value for money.
Only ever drink this during the need for an emergency energy boost, otherwise stick to the water, go out for a walk for some fresh air, or give yourself a slap!
Thanks for reading.
