Lucozade Energy Cherry
Advantages: flavour, taste, price, picks me up!
Disadvantages: sugar content
Despite the extraordinary high amount of sugar contained in a bottle I have to admit to being a huge fan of Lucozade especially if I'm feeling under the weather. Thanks to the Arctic conditions we experienced last week I managed to pick up another cold that I have just about shaken off now. Along with the usual coughs and sneezes I was left feeling run down and in definite need of a pick-me-up.
Browsing the range of energy drinks on the supermarket aisles I checked out the range of flavours available and noticed this new addition to the Lucozade range - Cherry. Finding the original flavour of Lucozade a bit on the boring side and the Orange Sport variety far too sweet I decided to try this new flavour and I have to say I am hooked on it.
Contained in a 380ml plastic bottle attractively designed in black and with the familiar Lucozade brand name emblazoned across the front the packaging is certainly eye catching and stands out well on the shelves amongst the other flavours. As is the norm for Lucozade I am informed that this is a drink that 'Gives you a physical edge" and am informed that this flavour is new. Opening the black screw cap the fizzy liquid throws tiny bubbles out of the neck of the bottle and the liquid is a deep, dark red in colour.
Taking an initial tentative sip you are met with a cherry explosion in your mouth, Lucozade have certainly not skimped on flavour in this drink and you can't fail to recognise the sweet, fruity taste of cherries. The liquid certainly gives me a buzz and straight away I feel awake and alert after taking a few drinks from the bottle, for some reason I am always very responsive to Lucozade (probably because of the amount of sugar contained) and it certainly does hit the spot with me.
There is no unpleasant aftertaste after drinking a bottle and I don't find any sugary residue left on my teeth or in my mouth which I can find with other cheaper alternatives however I always ensure that I brush my teeth to counteract the obvious high sugar content.
Speaking of which it probably won't come as much of a shock to find out that a bottle contains an outrageous amount of sugar - 51.7 grams to be exact and a single bottle provides 57% of an adults recommended daily sugar allowance, in addition it provides 262 calories but no fat whatsoever. It isn't a drink that I would recommend having every day and indeed the only time I ever have Lucozade is when I'm feeling run down. For this purpose I find it to be excellent and highly recommended.
The list of ingredients reveal that there is natural cherry juice included (2% from concentrate) and that probably explains why the taste of the drink is extremely authentic. It is essentially a highly fizzy, sugar packed cherry drink and that just about sums it up nicely.
I do like this drink and from me it gets 5/5 Dooyoo stars however with drinks of this nature moderation is key. Normally retails for around 82p for a single, 380ml bottle however they were on offer last week in Morrisons for two for a pound so a great price at that.
Definitely recommended if you need a pick-me-up, thanks for reading my review.
