Lucozade Energy Cherry
Advantages: Does the energy bit, cherry flavour doesn't last
Disadvantages: Initial cherry flavour - I just don't like it
I'm a fan of Lucozade, but I'm not so keen on cherry flavoured drinks, so I wasn't expecting too much when I picked up this bottle of cherry lucozade. It is in keeping with other flavours of the energy giving drink brand in that it is designed to give you a burst of energy by providing sugar, calories and glucose, although the flavour is likely to be the biggest sell or turn off given that there are plenty of other flavours of the drink that are available.
To be fair to it, the cherry flavour isn't too strong. When you first open the bottle, you get a cherry whiff along with the usual lucozade 'zing' aroma that comes with it. The first swig reveals the same, but it's ion the aftertaste that the cherry flavour comes through, and it was just as the majority of cherry drinks usually are, only slightly less strong.
I managed a few swigs of this before almost giving up, the cherry flavour taking over, but to be fair I kept on with it, relying on the zing flavour to try and outweigh the cherry. Other flavoured lucozade drinks do this, such as the orange and apple, and with these I find that the actual flavour disappears after a few seconds. Luckily, the same was the case with this cherry one, and I found that the flavour hardly lingered at all.
The positives for the drink are the same as with the other flavours. The energy boost it gives you is very good, if not immediate. I find it keeps me going for a while, handily giving your body glucose, which is what it functions on best anyway. The sugar content isn't so great for your teeth, and the calories are also quite high, with a 380ml bottle giving you over 250 calories. As a result, it's probably best not to guzzle this instead of other drinks, and to use it only as an energy giving drink from time to time.
I find if I swig this too quickly, I get a bit of trapped wind, so sipping is the best option. It retains its fizziness for quite a while after first being opened, and I find that keeping it refrigerated is probably the best option - it's more of a refreshing drink that way.
As good as this may be, I find it hard to get over that initial taste, and would probably choose all other flavours given the option. As a result, this is a drink I'd recommend staying away from if you don't like cherry, and if you do you're likely to like it as much as you would any other cherry drink. A bottle of this usually costs the same as other flavours, around £1 for a 380ml bottle.
