Advantages: Nice taste

Disadvantages: None

Lucozade has to be one of my favourite drinks when I'm not feeling great or when I need a little pick me up. Lucozade is still viewed by many as a drink to have when you are sick. It's been a staple in hospital wards as a gift for patients for as long as I can remember because I think people hold it up as a simple type of cure all and a fatigue killer, a general pick me up from tiredness!

There are a number of different drinks Lucozade produces under it's umbrella name such as Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Alert but this review is for the orange flavour. The original version is now called Lucozade Energy. It is basically an energy drink which contains glucose syrup. Glucose is basically a simple sugar which is used by cells in the body to give you a source of energy and metabolic intermediate.

Lucozade was first produced in 1927 by a chemist in Newcastle who was actually looking to provide a source of energy for those who are sick so I can see why people still reach for it when they are sick. It is now made by GlaxoSmithKline plc. When it first came out it was called Glucozade but was changed to Lucozade in 1929.

On their website they say the orange flavour is designed to give you an energy boost, sharpens mental performance and provides glucose fuel for physically active people. The orange flavour contains orange juice from concentrate so it's good to know that it does actually contains orange juice which is nice.

I'm sure when it first came out the drink was only available in the original flavour but I think it's nice that they now offer other flavours. As well as orange they now have apple, lemon, wild berry and tropical. The orange flavour is a weird one to describe. I think it's very different than a regular orange fizzy drink such as Fanta or something. It still has the glucozy tangy taste like the original but with an orange taste too. The liquid it's self is fizzy and is a very bright orange colour. It says on the bottle that the liquid is prone to staining if spilt! It can be quite sickly I think if you drink the whole bottle and I can generally only get through half of the bottle at one sitting as I find it quite filling too.

The lucozade orange bottle looks just like a bottle of the original version but the colour orange is a little bit lighter so you can tell them apart but you do need to look to make sure you pick up the right one as they can be easily confused. The word orange is written on the bottle to help you out.

Lucozade comes in small, one serving size bottles which are handy. The writing on the bottle is written in quite a sporty way with fizzy bubbles at the top, indicating that Lucozade breaks through the bubbles and takes you to the top!

I would say that the only downside of this drink is that it has quite a lot of calories. A one serving bottle is 380ml of liquid and this contains 266 calories. So, if you are looking for just a fizzy drink this is probably not for you as it ahs way more calories than a regular fizzy drink, such as Coke or Fanta but if you are looking for a sports/energy drink that you can use in conjunction with sport to keep your energy levels up whilst burning off calories then this is definitely the drink or you.

you are some f**king sad. why would you waste time telling people about lucozade!!?? just drink it and shut up. if i wanted to know about it i would read the bloody bottle. the only reason i found this blog is because i typed in 'useless info written by gay lords' in google. there was also a link to butthole bullies which i'm sure you and your mates appear on bumming each other sensless! i'm actually drinking a lemon lucozade and its amazing!! its like the first time i heard the beatles! if you want to kill your social life more why dont you go give your neighbour a hand shandy while fingering his dog. could be fun? it might seem i have alot of spare time to read your blog and comment but i was so interested in why you would do this... please, let me know. Gordon.
