Advantages: Good for a quick burst of energy.
Disadvantages: Very sweet, so not to everyone's taste.
When I'm out on the golf course, a bottle or two of Lucozade Original is an absolute essential piece of kit in my golf bag.
As I get older (I'm now 56) I find that my energy levels are prone to drop dramatically towards the end of a round of golf, and Lucozade Original is the ideal quick pick-me-up to keep me on my toes and alert, and less liable to ruin a good golf score through either physical tiredness or mental fatigue.
That quick pick-me-up is produced by the 26% glucose content of the drink, which will give you a quick and almost instantaneous boost of energy. There is also a dash of caffeine thrown in for good measure, which is probably another reason I like this drink so much, given I'm a complete coffee addict!
It tastes very sweet (hardly surprising considering the glucose content) and I suppose it wouldn't be to everyones taste, but I love it.
I also usually have a six-pack of Lucozade stashed away in the fridge, as I consider it an essential companion for my six-pack of Walker's Ready Salted Crisps. The combination is my favourite snack food while I'm zonked out watching the TV or a DVD. There's a tip for you, by the way. Always drink Lucozade freezing cold if at all possible, as it tastes *SO* much better.
I've liked Lucozade all my life, or anyways as far back as I can recall. I remember when I was a nipper in the 1950's, Lucozade was considered as a health drink to help someone to recuperate after a bout of illness, and you used to buy it in big glass bottles in the local chemist. I used to have great fun putting the coloured paper over my mum's glasses. (Heh, heh)
We *ALWAYS* have a bottle of Lucozade handy in the house, as our 16-year-old daughter suffers from diabetes, and it's an ideal drink for immediately increasing her blood sugar levels if they drop very low. It has quite literally saved her from going into a diabetic coma on innumerable occasions over the 11 years she has had the illness.
What's amazing is just how Lucozade as a company have managed to re-invent themselves, or at least re-invent their brand image. From being looked upon as primarily a health drink, Lucozade has now entered the soft drinks main stream, and is now very popular with all age groups.
It comes in various sizes. Big 2-litre bottles. Smaller 1-liter bottles. And those handy wee plastic bottles. You can also buy it in cans, which is great if you want to drink it in the car, as they fit easily into a drink holder.
Prices vary, but it's usually cheapest in the bigger supermarkets, and most expensive in garage shops.
