Advantages: Quick fix energy boost.
Disadvantages: Calorific!
When I was young I used to suffer from frequent bouts of tonsilitus and my mum always used to buy me Lucozade because I found it difficult to swallow solid food.
In those days it used to come in a glass bottle with a orange cellaphane wrap ( I Used to look through it and make everything look orange) It's slogan used to be "Lucozade aids recovery" and I believed it did. That slogan was replaced with "Lucozade replaces lost energy" and to be honest both slogans flit through my mind when I reach for one of the new plastic bottles from my fridge when I've had one to many the night before!
So what is in this magic potion? Well theres Carbonated Water, Citric Acid, Lactric Acid, Flavouring, Carbonated Water, Glucose Syrup (25%). Preservatives - Sodium Benozate, Sodium Bisulphite. Caffeine (0.012%), Antioxidant (Asorbic Acid), Colour (Sunset Yellow). Mmmmmmm sounds delicious doesnt it?
It is not surprising to know when looking at the glucose content that this drink was made for use in hospitals under the name Glucozade. This was changed to Lucozade in 1929.
Recently more flavours have been developed and you can choose from:
Orange
Apple
Lemon
Wild berry
Tropical
But original will always be my favourite! The taste is hard to describe because it is so unique .............. so I wont!
All I will say is that if you try LucoZade you will find that it's very very fizzy and if you happen to spill it down you, it will stain.
The good news is that Lucozade is fat free, the bad news is that there are 266 calories in a 380ml bottle which is made up from 37% of sugar. So my advise would be not to over indulge.
Lucozade is a fast fix if you are feeling a bit run down and lacking in energy, and its a superb cure if you are suffering from a hangover.
Summary: Energy quick fix drink!
