Advantages: ENERGY BOOST
Disadvantages: CAN CAUSE INSOMNIA
Lucozade is one of the most popular energy drinks available and has been around for numerous years.
Lucozade was first manufactured in 1927. It was originally called glucozade and was given to patients who suffered with colds and the flu.. I wonder if anyone faked a cold to get one for free!
Muslims weren't allowed to drink lucozade...
Lucozade is 0.01% ethanol, Some Muslims didn't drink lucozade because of this but later the Muslim Law Council declared that no one would be committing a religious crime if they drank it I'm sure however that some Muslims may still be put off by the fact it is 0.01% ethanol and won't drink it, which is fair play to them.
Lucozade Energy comes in a number of flavours including Original, Apple, Orange, Lemon, Wild Berry, and Tropical.
What does the original Lucozade contain?
Carbonated Water
Glucose Fructose Syrup (24%)
Orange juice from Concentrate (5%)
Citric Acid
Preservatives (Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bisulphite)
Stabilisar (Acacia Gum)
Caffeine (0.012%)
Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid)
Flavourings
Colour (Beta-Carotene)
So what are energy drinks?
Energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as providing energy to improve physical activity of the drinker, as compared to a typical drink. Rather than providing food energy (as measured in calories), these drinks are designed to increase a user's mental alertness and physical performance by the addition of caffeine, vitamins, and herbal supplements which may interact to provide a stimulant effect over and above that obtained from caffeine alone.
Lucozade with alcohol...
When I used to drink, I used to sometimes drink Lucozade with vodka, I must admit It was very nice, it tastes just like Red Bull and Emerge with vodka, I used to have it sometimes before a night out with the girls.
However I must add that when energy drinks are stimulants, alcohol is a depressant. The mix can be particularly hazardous as energy drinks can mask the influence of alcohol and a person can fail to take its effects into consideration. Normally fatigue would set in as large amounts of alcohol are being consumed, but the stimulating effect of energy drinks can override this effect.
Are there any affects?
A variety of physiological and psychological effects attributed to Lucozade and the ingredients that have been investigated.
I watched a programme some time last year and two studies reported significant improvements in mental and cognitive performances as well as increased subjective alertness when you have had an energy drink. Excess consumption of energy drinks may induce mild to moderate euphoria primarily caused by stimulant properties of caffeine and may also induce agitation, anxiety, irritability and insomnia.
So yes Lucozade is good to help give you energy and alertness but if you have too much of it, it can cause problems in the long run, too much of something can have a bad affect.
Restorative properties were shown by a combination of caffeine and the sugar glucose in an energy drink, and some degree of synergy between the cognition-modulating effects of glucose and caffeine was also suggested.
In one experiment on the programme, a glucose-based energy drink (containing caffeine, taurine and glucuronolactone) was given to twelve tired participants being tested in a driving simulator. Lane drifting and reaction times were measured for two hours post-treatment and showed significant improvement.
So as well as Lucozade having some disadvantages it does have advantages too.
This product does give a boost of energy which means you can react quickly but then a disadvantage of the product is it can cause insomnia.
I personally think this product is ok I wouldn't recommend drinking excess amounts of it though and, its good in small doses, and it does taste lovely with vodka but like I said it can have dangerous side effects.
