With lots of different flavours now available ranging from lemon through to blackcurrant and now cola (and what's that all about??!!??), Lucozade is the number one best-selling energy drink in the country and rightly so! But, sticking true to the cliche that you shouldn't mess with perfection, this original flavour remains the best of the bunch in my eyes and for taste, value and for a welcome sugary energy boost like no other, simply cannot be beat!

I always remember being given this by my mum when I was ill as a child or simply feeling run-down to give me a lift and boost my energy levels. At one stage, and I do not know if they still do them, you could even get Lucozade Energy Lozenges that tasted a little like a sweeter version of Love Hearts but with the unique flavour of Lucozade and the added bonus that they gave you one hell of a rush! Nowadays, Lucozade does not affect me as strongly as it once did but whether or not that is because they have altered the ingredients somewhat or just because I have become more accustomed to it's effects over the intervening years, I don't know.

The taste of Lucozade is like a very sugary, orange-flavoured drink and that is no doubt why it is rated so highly! Other energy drinks (and I'm looking at you Red Bull!) taste a little like cough medicine and are
nowhere near as pleasant in taste. And what's more, Lucozade is always easily spotted on the shelf with its uniqwue and original bright, bold orange and yellow lettering and design. Other energy drinks seems to pale on the shelf in comparison and are nowhere near as colourful or stand out as well.

People have talked about how drinking too much of this is bad for you and can induce panic attacks and increase seratonin and stress levels but I must admit I have never experienced this maybe because I drink it sensibly and in moderation the same way I would drink strong coffee! But when you are feeling a bit under the weather and need that extra zing put back in your stride then there really is no competition!

For me, it has to be lucozade every time!

Lucozade comes in 500 ml and 1L bottles and can be bought individually or, for better value, in multi-packs from all good stores. So next time you need a lift, reach for the Lucozade......
