Advantages: Gives a little boost, tastes nice
Disadvantages: No distinctive flavour, full of sugar
I was addicted to energy drinks, Relentless being the main one. Going through sometimes 2-3 cans a day wasn't good for my health, teeth or purse. After a big scare at the dentist earlier this week, I have replaced Relentless with water and a little bit of Lucozade a day, of course, Lucozade isn't exactly the best option but it's still giving me the pick me up I need until I can cut it out altogether.
Lucozade is available to purchase in lots of different flavours, the flavour I am reviewing today is the original flavour. Lucozade can be purchased in different size bottles, either 1L, 0.5L or 380ml. I try and buy the 1L version as it is often on special offer in most shops.
The packaging of Lucozade bottles stand out well on shelves of similar products, the red, orange and yellow colour scheme is quite in your face. Of course, the different flavours of Lucozade have different colour schemes.
The original flavour of this Lucozade doesn't have a distinctive taste. After opening the screw top bottle, you are met with a fizzing noise. The taste isn't of anything in particular, just a sugary hit with a faint taste of orange. The ingredients contained in this original flavour seem to tell the story:
Carbonated Water, Glucose Syrup (25%), Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Flavouring, Preservatives (Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bisulphite), Caffeine (0.012%), Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid), Colour (Sunset Yellow).
The high amount of glucose syrup means the taste is very sweet and sugary. However, it isn't a horrible taste, it's just like a thick sugary liquid.
As it is classed as an energy drink, it does give me the small pick me up I need. Granted, not as much as my ol' faithful Relentless did, but a pick me up nonetheless. I always used to associate Lucozade with hospitals as my grandad drank quite abit of it when he was ill, now I can see why, it gave him the boost that he needed.
Overall, this Lucozade serves my purpose well. Instead of having 2-3 cans of Relentless energy drinks a day, this Lucozade is a fitting substitute. Although it doesn't taste of anything in particular, it does have a nice taste, and in time I will cut down my consumption of this too, not because I don't like it, but because of my health and my teeth!
