Advantages: Rehydrates fast
Disadvantages: Doesn't refuel as such and tastes very unnaturaly sweet
Today when running out of my house to get to the gym I totally forgot to take my water bottle with me! What a panic that was I can tell you when I realised cos me, well I really work up a sweat and get parched so I had to nip across the road from my said gym and into my local Sainsbury's. Along with a bottle of water I decided to get one of these Lucozade sport drinks to help keep me hydrated and I do like flavour in my drinks as I'm not the worlds biggest fan of water I have to admit!
The Bottle:
500ml clear plastic bottle of which you can see the light orange drink through it and there is a flip top light blue lid concealing a small raised hole to the top of it. My first complaint is for this stupid lid! The way I see it is this is a sports drink and so much more thought should have gone into it. Being a flip top lid it's flexible and when you undo it, it dangles to the side aimlessley but the problem with that is that it's annoying say if your on a treadmill or cycling or something cos you have to fiddle about with it and if you leave it undone and put it in a holder on a machine the drink bounces out of it! Small niggle but this is an important feature to me. I did snap mine off and the drink hit the woman in front of me as I pounded the cross trainer and she wasn't at all impressed!
Around the middle of it, it has a clear and light and dark blue label with pictures in orange of people exercising. On the front of that in yellow, orange white writing I'm told it is indeed Lucozade Sport Body Fuel and that it is orange in flavour. Other information on the bottle includes being told a little bit about the product (to drink it before, during or after exercise), ingredients and nutritional information is given as are contact details for Lucozade. It's an ok bottle but I've already had a moan haven't I lol.
The Drink:
This is a very sweet but orangy flavoured drink that tastes unnaturally sweet and is rather thick really although watery at the same time. I feel the flavour is heavy with this.
For me this is a drink I would recommend for when working out really for hydrating purposes rather than a simply pleasant drink. If you drink this when you don't need to it isn't very pleasant at all. However if your parched and need rehydrating this is a fast fix although it does leave a slight tinny after-taste.
Does it refuel you though? Well it didn't me and my body certainly never felt re-energised or anything like that after drinking it. Like I say though I did feel it rehydrated me very well indeed and super fast and replaced my lost body salts from sweating. I never suddenly became super woman though sadly lol.
Verdict:
I will buy this time and time again for my hard work outs simply as a change but as this is so full of sweeteners I couldn't call it my favourite drink of all and it's not something I would want to sit about drinking for pure enjoyment but it does a job and it does it well enough. If you want hydration and to feel re-energised though I can recommend this drink in powder form you can buy yourself (at about £5.49 a tub for 12 servings in all good supermarkets and I have written a review on this!).
I paid 91p for my bottle (500ml) but it is also available in different flavours and in multi-packs of 4 for about £1.73 and in a 750ml size for £1.19 in all good supermarkets.
Summary: I'll buy it when I'm working hard and thirsty for sure!
