... ciders but am not a fan of dry ones. It is not a drink that I used to drink very often, but since I have discovered Magners, that has changed and it has actually become my drink of choice. It isn't sweet or dry to be honest, it manages to hit that "just right" area in the middle, which makes it refreshing and sweet without being at all sickly. It is best drunk with loads of ice in the glass, which surprised me as I wouldn't normally put ice in cider. Having tried it both with and without though, I can ...more

Premium Review Magners Irish Cider: Magners or Bulmers?!?! (333 words)
by - written on 22/10/09 (Very useful, 21 readings)
Rating:

Magners Irish Cider is a premium bottled cider available in the UK from off licences, supermarkets and pubs, but is also available on draught in some Scottish bars and most Irish. To clear up confusion, in the UK, Bulmers and Magners are two different drinks from two different companies. In Ireland, Magners is called Bulmers. It only has a different name in the UK so that they can avoid the confusion of having two bottled ciders called Bulmers! This was something that had me confused for so long, and even now it takes me a minute to get my head around it! Over the last few years, cider experienced a resurgence in the market, primarily due to the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Far from the days of White lightening (411 words)

After one very bad experience with some White Lightening as a teenager I vowed never to drink cider again, and until today have kept to that. We were having a BBQ and there was only some Magners Irish cider left in the entire house, so I decided to give up on my cider ban and give it a go, and I am really glad that I did. It is a very crisp and flavoursome cider, much more than the cheap yet strong White lightening, and at about 4.5% is just enough to have a few without starting to feel the real effects of starting to feel a tad tipsy. I think the main difference that I noticed was that cans such as Strongbow and Blackthorn have a distinct ...  Read the complete review

I have been a fan of cider for the last couple of years and am a regular drinker of Magners original cider which is available in all supermarkets and commonplace in grocery stores. It is also widely available in pubs, typically as a 568 ml bottle, but if you are lucky sometimes on draught. Product description: Magners is produced from "a blend of seventeen varieties of fresh apples to create the unique taste of magners irish cider". The alcoholic content of Magners is 4.5% volume. Product packaging: The product is available in a variety of recyclable cans and bottles at supermarkets. These include: - 4 x 500 ml cans - 6 x ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The perfect summer drink (384 words)
by - written on 16/06/09 (Very useful, 67 readings)

Summer is sort of here and the sunny days bring lots of opportunities to laze at the local pub drinking cider all afternoon (not at the moment for me due to the pregnancy but I can watch everyone else drinking the long summer nights away!) My cider of choice for the last couple of years now has been Magners Irish cider. Magners Irish Cider is actually called Bulmers Original Vintage Cider in the Republic of Ireland where it is produced but to not cause confusion it is called Magners Original Irish Cider outside of the Republic of Ireland. All clear and understood, perfect?! When you buy Magners in a pub you generally get it in large glass bottles ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Magners Irish Cider: "Here spaketh an experienced cider drinker.." (2954 words)

I have been meaning to review Magners since I joined Ciao again, but haven't been able to get around to it until now. Magners, is by far my favourite alcoholic beverage, and has been since I was 17, replacing the copious amounts of alchopops which I used to drink. It is the staple drink I have on a night out, and can be found in nearly every pub in Britain. In fact, the only time I have had problems getting it, was when I was in Twickenham last year, where several pubs that I went in, only had Bulmers. The History of Magners William Magner, brought an orchard in 1935 and in 1937 joined forces with H.P Bulmer. When Magner left the business, the ...  Read the complete review
