I used to love a Lambrini when going out but lately I have just been thirsty for something a bit more chilled and refreshing. Don't get me wrong I do still love spirits and the odd glass of wine but now getting into the summer months, I enjoy a nice cold glass of Magners. Bulmer's is quite similar but I definitely think Magners is the pricier but better tasting option as it just has something about it which makes me willing to pay the extra more. You can buy Magners in the separate bottles which at the minute are actually quite cheap and it's nice to drink over ice without getting you tipsy in any way.

The packaging of Magners is quite distinct but does have similar colours next to the others on the shelf as most tend to have yellow labels. The bottle is a dark brown glass but you can still see the level of drink left through the glass. The top is all in gold foil it needs a bottle opener to take the top off. The actual label is a yellow circle sticker with green around it and the Magners logo in the middle of it. The overall look is nice and eye catching and for a cider does have quite a sophisticated look to it.

As for the nutritional information, there isn't really much on it but it does state that the 568ml bottle being drunk is 2.6 units and then compares it to the daily guidelines. For a woman it is 2-3 units a day and for men 3-4 units. It is 4.5% volume which isn't too high compared to the likes of wine and vodka.

The description on the back of the cider bottle is that Magners is made from a blend of seventeen different varieties of fresh apples to create the unique taste. It is made in Tipperary in Ireland. Warnings on the back of the bottle are that the drink contains sulphites.

As for the smell it does smell quite sweet and slightly fruity but also has that slight alcoholic smell to it. I definitely think the apple scent is strong but it does seem unusual. I like to compare ciders when drinking them as it is a nice summer drink but there are occasions for each. I like Jacques cider when I want something fruity but not too strong. I like Strongbow when out on a night out as it has a stronger taste and is less refreshing but Magner's is just smooth, a slight alcoholic hint to it but nothing too strong that means you will be hung over the next day.

Now, if you're wondering where exactly you can buy this smooth refreshing cider, look no further than your local supermarket. There are offers on at the minute at Tesco to get a 568ml bottle for £1.58 which is usually £1.98 which isn't too bad. You can also get 12x 440ml cans for £12. The cider isn't too expensive if you get deals but I know when out at my local bars and pubs they always charge about £3 something for a bottle of Magners which is why I usually just settle for a pint of Strongbow as it's a pricier night on Magners. This is what I mean when I say it's a more expensive night on Magner's.

I definitely recommend Magner's if you are the kind of person who goes on a night out to just enjoy their drink rather than make a big night of it. It is a nice drink even for the summer to have a nice cold glass of. If you don't like strong alcohol then this is just the perfect option.

I often wondered what the fuss was about with Magners cider until I tried it. I'd say its a definite one for Summer and less so for night drinking as I find it really strong.. More than that infact I really prefer their pear cider over the original one but it can be hard to find in pubs.

good review, unfortionately I have been unable to enjoy any cider since an adventure at the age of 16 with 4 750ml cans of coperhead plus. I shudder now when I imagine my son growing up and causing that much mess on my carpets.

I don't think you can really compare the strength of the drink to vodka - not many people ahve a pint of vodka - well, not in one glass anyway!!!
