Advantages: Pear flavour is very nice

Disadvantages: Original has a strange tang

I would never call myself in any way a cider fan. I find the tasty generally too tangy, especially the likes of Strongbow, and the only Cider I've ever genuinely enjoyed is the Jacques Strongbow Fruit Cider, which toned down the tang in favour of a fruitier approach. I try to branch out and try different things, so I gave Magners' Irish Ciders a go. As far as Ciders go, it's actually not that bad.

Cider, I find, is best enjoyed when ice cool, and I very much see it as something of a Summer drink anyway, given its association with fruit and such like. When it's ice cold, it's a lot easier to drink in my opinion, as the tang isn't as easy to detect. Like beer, this is just horrendous if consumed warm, but perhaps moreso (for me at least) because there's a tang, and a warm tang, which I was accidentally the brunt of once, is just not pleasant at all.

Magners do not only have a regular apple cider, though - there's a Pear version which is a little more agreeable because it has less of a "tang" that I speak of, and is a little more sweet rather than tangy. Although obviously, it is a bit harder to come across than the regular Magners stuff. Generally, though, Magners is very well priced for a cider, regardless of which flavour you choice - you can normally find a 4-pack of bottles (the 330ml ones) for about £3 in most supermarkets, although I prefer the snazzier, bigger pint bottles (which obviously are quite a bit dearer). Still, if you're looking to experiment and branch out, I recommend grabbing a 4-pack for £3 and giving them a go.

Summary: Original = too tangy for me / Pear = just right
