Advantages: Easy to drink, refreshing, tastes completely different to anything else
Disadvantages: Stronger than it tastes, possibly a bit 'girly' for some
MMMM...Malibu. Even the name sounds gorgeous!
The sound of it brings images of sitting on the beach, waves lapping at the shore, palm trees blowing in the breeze... and the taste takes you there aswell!
Malibu is a sweet, almost syrupy coconut rum, which doesn't taste of alcohol at all. It can be used with a variety of mixers to make completely different flavours, and is often also used in cocktails too.
Personally, I love the flavour of Malibu with coca cola, as it turns into a lovely sweet drink, but some people may find this too sweet.
Malibu with lemonade makes a nice refreshing drink, perfect for an afternoon in the beer garden, or a lot of people prefer the 'proper' (original) way of drinking Malibu- with pineapple to juice, to make a tropical tasting drink.
One more way to try it is with cranberry juice and a twist of lime-not a favourite of mine, but this takes the edge off the sweetness, and seems to give it more of a kick!
Often seen as a 'girly', or 'young' drink, beware, as this packs more of a punch than you would think! Many times my friends and I have been caught out, thinking were having an easy night on the Malibu, only to find ourselves dancing on the tables at 3 in the morning and realising we're more than a little tipsy! In short, a lot more alcoholic than it tastes.
So, overall, an absolutely gorgeous drink, but beware you don't get caught out!
Summary: Definately recommend you try at least once!
