Advantages: Its different. A god alternative to bacardi and coke etc
Disadvantages: Coconut smell and taste. Easy to go overboard and not be able to go near it again
Malibu is a strong coconut light rum that is often mixed with coca cola and served in bars.
Although it is believed rum originated in the Carribean as far back as 1605, it was only exported to the UK in 1980- this is quite surprising as it looks so retro you can imagine people drinking this in the 1960s and 1970s.
It is a popular drink for girls, especially the 18-25 age range (I know from experience, I remember asking for a triple Malibu and coke when I was 18... then going through a malibu phase..). Unfortunately as it is so scented, should you go overboard with it, if you so much as smell anything coconut for several years afterwards, it will turn your stomach).
It sells for £12.79 for a 70cl bottle to £14-17 for a 1tr bottle in major supermarkets- so it is priced much the same as a bottle of Smirnoff.
It is one of those drinks that in my opinion you are more likely to go through a phase of drinking then not go near it either ever again or for a few years afterwards.
It is light tasting and doesn't leave a hot burn like a lot of spirits, but if you drink this you will smell strongly of coconut and all you will be able to taste all night is coconut. So it you don't like the sound of that, avoid it.
If you haven;t tried it before and like things like tabboo, mirage, rum and coke, mixers and coke.. then go for it. You might like it.
Summary: If you like Bounty bars and want to feel a little caribbean, the go for it
