Disadvantages: not chocolatey, tastes bland
I enjoy hot chocolate now and again but I tend to avoid buying big jars of the stuff as I don't end up using it all before it goes out of date! If I do get in the mood for some hot chocolate I usually buy the individual sachets, this means you can try different types of hot chocolates without spending a fortune, and If you don't like it, you haven't wasted a lot of money and know to avoid that particular type of hot chocolate in future.
I'm a big fan of maltesers and when I spied maltesers hot chocolate in the supermarket I decided to give it a go. I went for an individual sachet of the stuff as opposed to the large jar pictured here, the individual sachet cost me about 30p for 25g and is enough for one mug. The sachet is red coloured much like packets of maltesers, it has nutritional information on the back and if made up according to the instructions the drink has 99 calories.
Making the hot chocolate is easy peasy, just empty the sachet into a mug, add hot water and stir. Upon opening the packet you can detect a slight maltesery smell and you get quite a lot of powder in the sachet, I expected the drink to be quite chocolatey and was looking forward to trying it, but unfortunately it really didn't live up to my expectations....
After making the drink up and allowing it to cool a bit I took my first mouthful, I have to say I wasn't impressed. The taste is very unchocolately, you get a bit of a malty taste from the drink but it is a hot chocolate malt drink so I would expect that. It is not undrinkable or horrible tasting in any way, but it is just bland and boring and does not taste like maltesers at all, which was very disappointing.
I will definitely not be buying this again and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend at all. Am glad I only went for an individual sachet of the stuff because if I had bought a jar of it it would definitely be going in the bin!
Summary: maltesers drink, not so much...
