Advantages: Taste, good for you
Disadvantages: A little pricey
Forget blueberries, apparently Pomegrantes are the new super food. I don't know how much of this is hype, I think all fruits are superfood in their own right. This media interest on Pomegrante Juice made me think though, I hadn't ever tried it. More out of curiosity than anything, I picked up a bottle when I was in M&S this week.
The bottle I bought was located amougst the juices and smoothies in the 'lunch' section of the food hall. It was a 500ml bottle costing £2.25. This super-food was a super-price too then! I guess you could pick up pomegranate juice cheaper elsewhere, however this product is 100% pure not form concentrate, which I suppose explains the price.
This bottle had the 'eat well' symbol across the front, indicating M&S had picked it as a healthy eating product. It also has a symbol on the bottle that informs you it contains one of your five portions of fruit and veg a day. In 'innocent smoothie' style it claims to contains 4 and a half pomegrantes per bottle. So far so good.
The 500ml, as is always the way, is 2 servings apparently. Being in the luchtime food range, everyone will drink this at once I'd imagine. Their 250ml serving contains 125 calories so double that to 250 for the whole bottle that you probably will drink straight! A little steep on the calories for a drink? Maybe so, but as this is fresh, these are all naturally occuring. Better getting the calories from this than a can of Coke.
So that's the science, what does it taste like? Well sorry to be a cop out but well, like Pomegrantes! It's quite a distinctive taste. I guess the nearest fruit taste wise to compare it to is a Cranberry, although it's still pretty far off. I can imagine this is something that not everyone will like, however I really enjoyed the taste for a change and would be lovely mixed with some other juices for a non alcoholic cocktail.
All in all, a good product, I'd buy it again.
Summary: I'd have this sometimes, but a OJ suits my wallet a bit better.
