Advantages: Taste

Disadvantages: Not Mars enough, price

I didn't realise that this was supposed to be some kind of sports style drink to be consumed to give you extra energy till I looked up this drink and found that it was named Mars Refuel rather than just Mars.

According to the bottle information, research carried out showed that cyclists who drank Mars Refuel were able to carry on for 50% longer than those who had traditional sports drinks. Now I don't know who carried out the reasearch but this would be quite surprising were it to be true. From a personal perspective, I can't imagine this helping me much were I thirsty after doing sport, all I would want is water.

I drink this because I like milkshake and flavoured milk drinks and becuase I have tried and enjoyed the Galaxy drink several times. So I thought this might be nice. It comes in typical Mars colours; black gold and red with a bright red screw top. The slogan is 'work, rest, play longer' playing on their old ad tag line of 'work, rest, play'. This is quite high in calories, coming in at just under 300 calories.

The liquid is mid brown in colour but doesn't look as thick as I had anticipated. I suppose this may be because I am used to the Frijj range. The taste is reminiscent of Mars to an extent with a sweet milk chocolate taste with a hint of caramel. However, it has a slightly powdery edge to it, not as bad as other milkshake drinks though to be air, but there was nothing about it that particularly stood out. Had it been placed into a glass, I would probably not realised that it was a Mars drink.

Moreover, it is really expensive. This 388ml bottle, the size of a Ribena carton, cost £1.48 which pro-rata is roughly twice the cost of any other drink. I just didn't think it was special enough to justify that price and would probably not re-purchase.

Summary: Nice but too expensive for what it is
