Disadvantages: Fatty, Pricy, Cheap Packaging

I tried a couple of the new Mars milks this week, this Mars Thick Shake and the Galaxy Milk. I'm happy to report that out of the two, this one was the definite winner. It costs £1.29 for a 440ml bottle in Tesco, but you can get it cheaper on offer quite frequently. I paid less than £1 for a bottle in my local garage (about 80p I think). It's quite expensive, but it really is a treat and it's worth paying the price for the occasional indulgence.

The bottle it comes in could be improved a little, as the thick, wide-set bottle neck means this is far too easy to down quickly. Really, with it being such a thick shake, you want to drink it at a slower rate than you would do a bottle of fruit juice or the like. The packaging in general is quite thin and cheap, with the lid easy to mis-align when doing it up too. I think for the price they could improve on these things.

The shake really is extremely thick, considerably more so than the old style Mars Milkshake that they did. The texture is very much like they melted down a couple of Mars Bars and mixed them with milk. And that's exactly how it tastes as well. I was surprised to find that a mixed milk drink, without any layers like a Mars Bar has, could taste so similar to the blend of flavours you get when you eat an actual Mars Chocolate Bar.

This is one of those milkshakes that you have in place of a chocolate treat, it's really not for those who want a thirst-quenching drink. It's thick, gooey, chocolatey and with a really sweet, chocolate, caramel and even soft nougat flavour. It coats your mouth when you drink it to make the experience last that little bit longer.

Obviously chocolate heaven as sublime as this comes at a price, and not just the amount you have to pay to get your hands on one of these. Each bottle contains 396 calories, 53.2g of sugar and 11g of fat. So possibly not an everyday replacement for your usual bottle of flavoured water then. But oh so tasty nevertheless.

Summary: Soooo Tasty
