Advantages: Great rich taste

Disadvantages: None

Last summer when my local Tesco were doing the promotion for free tea or coffee when you spend over £30, I opted for a free jar of Maxwell House instant coffee granules. Just before the offer began, I had just opened a huge jar of my favourite Nescafe granules, so it has taken almost a year before I have gotten round to opening this freebie from Tesco, which usually costs £3.00 for the larger 200g, however Tesco were givving away the smaller 100g jar.

One of my little indulgences when I come home from work every day, is to have a warm, milky coffee, so after finishing the Nescafe jar, I opened this Maxwell house. On the reverse of the jar, it states that these are 'instant coffee granules', providing a 'rich and full' flavour, and that they are 'roasted to the heart'. It also claims that it is 'good to the last drop'.

After opening the jar, a nice strongish coffee aroma filled my nose, and it smelled great. I found adding these granules to my warmed milk was straightforward, and they mixed and dissolved very easily, however I did think they made the coffee even look slightly stronger than my usual nescafe granules.

I have to say however, that I have now got used to the richness and strength of the granules in my milky coffee and like them. The flavour is rich and full, as Maxwell House claim, and I find that you don't need to add too many granules to make it to the strength that I like, which should stop me from having to purchase another jar anytime soon.

Although I thought I would always stick to Nescafe for my coffee granules, I have to say that I think I have been converted to Maxwell House, and would gladly choose these granules again. that is not to say however, that if Nescafe were better value, that I wouldn't return to them, as I would, but I would also consider these Maxwell House instant coffee granules again. This therefore was a great freebie by Tesco, and certainly has made me think about which coffee I will buy in the future - they make a great tasting coffee.

Summary: Granules dissolve to give a great tasting coffee, full of flavour
