Medronho

Growing up in the Monchique foothills, I think I am worthy enough to write a review on medronho. Adegas (breweries) dotted the countryside near by and during the brewing season (February) there would be get togethers amongst country folk. Medronho is a strong spirit made from distilled berries from the strawberry tree, the fruit itself is a bit bitter but generally doesn't taste of much. When turned into alcohol though, it produces a fiery spirit. The drink often known as "Aguardente do Medronho" is the cause of many a zig zagging old man on a motorbike! This is an awesome drink from Portugal, if you enjoy a power ful spirit then fill your boots! It is best chilled and then drunk straight.If your a a vodka lover then this will make most vodkas seem tame apart from the Polish variety.
