Metaxa can be found in many different variaties (3*, 5*, 7*, 12*, Private Reserve and some others). The number of stars indicates the number of years the brandy has matured in the barrel. When comparing the 7* Metaxa with the 3* (sorry, no 5* at hand for comparison), you notice that the 7* has a less pronounced alcohol taste and smell to it.
