Advantages: Rich, smooth taste, easy to come by

Disadvantages: Other people will also love it, so it is very possible you'll have to share

Metaxa can be found in many different variaties (3*, 5*, 7*, 12*, Private Reserve and some others). The number of stars indicates the number of years the brandy has matured in the barrel.

When comparing the 7* Metaxa with the 3* (sorry, no 5* at hand for comparison), you notice that the 7* has a less pronounced alcohol taste and smell to it. It is much more delicate, a lot smother and, even though I do not like to use the word in this context, more complex. You can indeed taste the wood of the barrel and when taking another taste of the 3*, there is a certain emptiness the 3* Metaxa can not fill.

When looking at the price, both of them are very affordable and quite easy to come by. They are very good, but when given the choice, I prefer the 7* variant, due to its, there's that word again, complexity and richness. If you want to use it for mixing, I would recommend the 3*, simply because I would regret mixing a high quality liquor like the 7* Metaxa.

Summary: Very good brandy, deffinitely worth a try
