Advantages: Nice enough flavour, only 5 calories per glass

Disadvantages: A little too sweet, goes flat rather quickly

In Morrisons recently I bought a 2 litre bottle of their own brand Dandelion & Burdock, of the no added sugar variety as I'm currently dieting. I am not a fan of supermarket fizzy drinks, much preferring the big brand bottles of pop as I find the flavours are generally better but this time I thought I'd give Morrisons a chance as the bottle was attractive and the fact that this contains just 5 calories per 250ml meant it was worth a try.

Opening the bottle I was a little irritated by the huge fizz as I do not really like overly fizzy drinks, this sounds very loud and I was glad the bubbles soon went down although this does go flat a bit too quickly in my opinion so you need to drink the bottle as soon as you can otherwise it'll get very flat indeed.

This drink has a good rounded taste, I can tell it's obviously a diet version because it tastes rather strongly of sweeteners. It tastes quite sweet to me and I think it could have benefited from less sweeteners because Dandelion & Burdock should be a tangy and this just tastes like the balance of the drink is out of whack.

Dandelion & Burdock is a hard drink to describe. This one is quite fruity but in a Vimto fruity way rather than a drink based on one or two identifiable fruits, as I said earlier it's very sweet and this somewhat overwhelms the flavours of the pop. Thankfully the bubbles subside but then I find I have to drink my glass quickly as when it goes flat it's not nice at all and tastes extremely bland.

So the key to this drink is to buy a bottle when there are other people to share it and drink your glass fast before the fizz disappears, for this reason I don't find it a very refreshing drink at all although I will continue to buy it because it's a nice enough pop and at 49p a bottle it's very reasonably priced. To be honest I prefer other brands of Dandelion & Burdock but beggars can't be choosers and there is little choice when it comes to diet versions of this drink, this one is much better than both the Sainsbury's and Asda versions so I'll buy a bottle now and again to share with my granddaughter.

Summary: Morrisons have added too many sweeteners to this drink and it spoils the flavour somewhat.
