Advantages: Quick and easy to make
Disadvantages: Too Much Froth
I enjoy a cappuccino and usually require a caffeine fix mid afternoon to keep me going till the end of work.
As the Nescafe brand was on order at my local supermarket, I thought I would give it a try.
Normally priced at £1.99 for 10 sachets, it comes in three varieties – normal, unsweetened and decaffeinated. I have quite a sweet tooth, and the idea of decaffeinated coffee is sacrilege, so I opted for the normal (sweetened) version.
Each sachet contains a mixture of sweetened coffee and milk powder to which you add boiling water. I have found that vigorous stirring is required unless you want a cup of lumpy powdery coffee. I also add milk otherwise the coffee is far too hot too drink and it does give it extra creaminess.
The box also contains a small chocolate shaker for giving your cappuccinos that extra touch. I prefer to add this to the rest of the coffee powder before adding water to give a Mocha style cappuccino. I have found that shaking this on top of the froth just gives me a chocolate moustache.
The first time I used one of the sachets, I made it up in a normal sized mug, I had only added about half of the water before the mug was flowing over. The Nescafe cappuccino produces a large amount of froth, which I have found, needs to be either shovelled away with a spoon or constantly stirred. I now use a larger mug for my Nescafe Cappuccinos.
As for the taste, I enjoy strong coffee, so I found this to be quite weak although not unpleasant. Even without adding milk I found it to be quite thick and creamy, although this may put some people off. There was not a bitter taste either as experienced with some cheaper brands. Unlike other brands the sweetened version did not require extra sugar.
If you enjoy strong coffee, and would rather drink coffee and not froth, then this is definitely not the drink for you.
I would recommend that you don’t waste your £1.99 on Nescafe and opt for a cheaper supermarket brand instead.
Summary: Too frothy
