Advantages: Easy to carry around, Foamy

Disadvantages: Expensive, Lumpy, Bad Taste

I love instant cappuccino drinks, they are so easy to make and drink. I have been a regular Tesco's cappuccino drinker, which is easy to make and tastes lovely.

So when I saw Nescafe cappuccino sachets in my local spar on the way to work one day, I thought I'd buy one for a mid-morning treat. I have had these ones before, and they tasted ok when I had them then, so perhaps the ones I bought this time were from a bad batch?

The packaging is fairly basic but clear. There is a red top part with a sandy coloured bottom part (it is a scene of a deckchair I think). I bought the pack of two sachets but you can buy large tins of these (think catering sized) and I'm sure I've seen an in-between size as well. There are two sachets that have a tear-off line in between them. The only grudge I have with the packaging is that the instructions are only on one of the sachets, so make sure you don't use that one first or you will have problems if you forget how to make it (unlikely I know but still).

The price of these were 52p for two sachets in my local spar. I think it varies by a few pence from place to place. Not cheap, but cheaper than going to the restaurant and buying one!

This product is available from a large variety of places, including supermarkets, spar shops, etc. You shouldn't have any difficulty in finding these in the shops.

On pouring the powder into my cup, I noticed that it had a strong creamy smell. Not really coffee-like, but more like hot chocolate. So I boiled the kettle and poured it in my cup ? BIG MISTAKE. Do leave the water to cool for a couple of minutes as I didn't and mine started forming thick rock hard clumps of powder. Stirring like mad, I tried to rectify my mistake and managed to get the majority of the lumps out, or so I thought.

On tasting I had numerous mouthfuls of clumpy white bits that reminded me of something not-so-nice and I felt sick drinking it. I had to t
hrow it away before I was tr
uly ill and made another one, properly this time.

This time I had something more smooth and thick, it looked very impressive with a thick, creamy foam on the top but the taste still made me feel a bit ill. It was way too creamy and didn't taste anything like a proper cappuccino. The consistency was far too thick and I was making these in a mug so plenty of water was mixed in. The Tesco's version which I normally buy goes into a much better consistency and this was let down by the Nescafe version.

Another thing that disappointed me with the Nescafe version is that the Tesco's ones include a dinky sachet of chocolate for you to sprinkle on the top, shame you cannot do it with the Nescafe ones as this would probably improve the taste slightly too.

The advantages of having a product like this is that you can easily carry a sachet around, it is easy to make providing you don't use freshly boiled water and it makes a lovely foam on the top.

The disadvantages of this product is that it is expensive, too thick in consistency, tastes too creamy and lacked something that the Tesco's version had - taste, consistency, price, chocolate powder.

Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this at all. I would definitely recommend the Tesco's version which I will write an op on soon I hope! Its too expensive for the taste it produces or perhaps I was unlucky with that packet as I have had it before and I'm sure it didn't taste that bad?. Oh well.

I've tried these and thought they were okay, but still much prefer a cup of tea!
