Advantages: Good value for money, Strong, full flavour, No additives

Disadvantages: None

I'm one of those people who needs three or four cups of coffee in the morning to get me started. And, while ideally, I would be brewing myself real coffee, time constraints mean that instead I reach for the instant coffee. Although I occasionally buy a different brand from usual, (maybe a new type or flavour comes out, or a different brand has a competition on it) nine times out of ten I buy Nescafe Gold Blend. Of all the instant coffees I have purchased over time, this brand is the most acceptable to my palate. I like a medium to strong cup, and with Gold Blend, this is just what I get. I only need to use one teaspoon per cup, whereas with some coffees, I need to double this to get the strength of flavour I require.

Nescafe, have been making coffee since 1938 and they use pure coffee without additives. Nescafe original is made by spray-drying, yet Gold Blend is made by freeze-drying. The company uses the finest coffee beans for their products that are blended to make the finished products. Gold blend came into prominence in the mid eighties when a very popular series of television commercials starring Anthony Head and Sharon Maughn came onto our screens. The 12 ads, which were filmed as a sort of soap opera ran between 1987 and 1993. I believe the ads were released on a free video as a promotion, but don't quote me on that!

You can get this coffee in a range of jar sizes, ranging from around 100 to 500 grammes and it comes within a mid price range; Approximately £2.50 for 200 grammes, which I personally think is good value for money. What is also great about Gold Blend is the jar it comes in. It is not the usual ordinary round type glass jar. It is more of a rectangular shape, which makes it great for saving. I have a number of different sized Gold Blend jars around the house. Not only are they useful for storage; they look very decorative too.

All in all, my favourite instant coffee brand. Always avail
able in the supermarket when you want it, full in flavour, not weak and good value for money. What more could you want in a coffee?
