Advantages: convenient

Disadvantages: cost, amount, sugar

We had been out shopping, the weather was cold and the coffee shops were packed. I was thirsty and really fancied a coffee. Walking into a newsagent I saw the answer to my prayers. Nescafe coffee in a can, the can heats itself, so soon I would be able to enjoy the hot cuppa that I yearned for.

My first impression was of a can quite similar in size to a normal 330ml fizzy drinks can, the price of £1.25 I thought fairly expensive when taking into account a hot cup in a café is less than a pound and a can of fizzy is about 60p. Having said that I wanted a hot coffee and I wanted it then.

Back outside into the cold air, clutching my purchase, now Nescafe is my favourite coffee so I had no doubts as to how good it would taste. I do not take sugar, so I bought the can marked white no sugar. It is also available black and with added sugar.

After reading the instructions I turned the can upside down, pressed the button, gently shook the can until the red liquid that was there all vanished. I then had three minutes to wait before I could taste the coffee I so desired.

Three minutes later..
Time to drink, the aroma was pleasant and promised me so much. The taste, well it was hot and tasted of coffee, but wait a taste that I do not find pleasant SUGAR, it tasted a little sweet. Looking at the can again in case I had picked up one with sugar, no I had the no sugar can all right. But when looking at the contents on the can the no sugar version, does indeed contain sugar. Although I really do not like sugar in coffee, my need for a coffee meant I would drink this warming drink (well the price also had a bearing on me being loathe to chuck it away).

Shock number two..
I did not really consider how much actual coffee was in the can, so when I finished it quicker than expected I checked the can and the actual contents were a mere 210ml, not exactly enough to satisfy me.

Maths fun..
Cost £1.25 per can, contents 210ml. <
br>Decent mug of coffee about 400ml.
Therefore it takes about two cans to make one mug of coffee, costing £2.50.
That is too rich for my blood I am afraid, I will not be buying this again for reasons of cost and sugar in the no sugar can.
The idea is a good one, it would make sense to have a can in the glove compartment of your car in case of breakdowns on cold winters nights. But I think Nestle need to go back to the drawing board and come up with slightly larger cans and if it is not meant to have sugar then it should not have it.

What a disappointment! I'd had the same idea as you - that it would be a good idea to keep a couple of cans in the car, but it doesn't sound like quite such a good idea any more!
