Advantages: No noticable differences from regular coffee, rich and nutty

Disadvantages: Slightly weaker

I discovered a couple of months ago that I am becoming more and more sensitive to caffeine, especially in coffee. Coffee happens to be one of my favourite drinks and I tend to drink gallons of the stuff. Therefore I was understandably distressed at the thought of not being able to drink regular coffee. I was never really convinced by the thought of Decaf coffee and was resentful that now I would have no choice but to drink it.

Instead of spending a fortune on expensive decaf I thought I better attempt a less expensive version in case I didnt like it. So I chose the Nescafe Original Decaff.

Unlike the picture the product actually comes in a royal blue packaging in the UK. It stands out a lot better on the shelf as it contrasts to the brown granules inside the glass. Nescafe is made by Nestle and the Nestle logo appears on the top of the plastic lid. The packaging is recyclable.

The granules look the same as the original caffeinated granules. Small and brown and earthy. The smell of the granules isnt as strong as other coffees and it is quite nutty.

As usual with instant coffee. You put a teaspoon or so of the granules in the bottom of a cup and then fill with boiling water. Then add milk, cream or sugar to taste. Stir well until the granules dissolve. As long as the water is boiling then the granules will dissolve completely in seconds.

The smell of the coffee when dissolved is again not as strong as regular coffee and slightly nuttier and I find the taste is very similar but I need less milk otherwise it tastes too creamy. I was extremely pleased and relieved that I really couldnt find much different with the Decaff Coffee from regular coffee.

Whats great is that in the 100g of coffee there are 23g of Antioxidants! Which means whenever you drink a cup of coffee one fifth of it will be antioxidants. These are naturally found in coffee and so are not additives. The coffee has a long shelf life of two years but I have managed to get through around 3 jars in a couple of months.

The process of decaffeination can occur in several different ways and the method used by nescafe is water decaffeination according to their website. This is a 100% chemical free way to remove caffeine from the coffee beans. This means you can fully enjoy your cup of coffee knowing it has no harmful caffeine or chemicals in it.

Summary: Give it a go if you want a caffeine free beverage
