Advantages: Pleasing aroma, fairly pleasant taste
Disadvantages: Not as nice as real coffee, pricey
Even though i'm primarily a tea drinker I do indulge in the occasional coffee, although i'm not that fussy about which brands I buy. In my household there is normally a jar of whatever is on offer at the supermarket, and this week it has been Nescafe's Original Instant.
The smallest 50g jar of the coffee sells for £1.56 from Tesco, whilst the 100g container retails at £2.23. You can also purchase the product in 200g and 300g sizes which cost £4.45 and £6.24 respectively.
I generally use a heaped teaspoon of coffee when making an instant in order to bring out a fuller flavour, as following the recommended 'one level teaspoon' usually produces a drink which is a little weak and somewhat tasteless. So what sort of a coffee does a heaped teaspoon of Nescafe Original produce?
Although i'm not an expert (or 'aficionado' - a word I like using) in deciphering different flavours of coffee, I find the drink to be pleasant in taste without being too bitter. That said, I find it no better or worse than other similarly priced instants, for example Kenco which is actually a little cheaper at £3.99 for 200g.
The aroma is the coffee is pleasing, and creates an expectation of the taste which the actual flavour can't fully match. That said, it is fairly easy drinking and smooth in flavour. Although it is fairly pricey, a jar usually lasts a long time - especially if you go for the 300g size.
I think that as long as you don't expect it to taste as good as 'real coffee' then you can't go too far wrong with this - recommended.
