I am a huge coffee lover, and drink it every morning, without fail. I therefore like a decent quality coffee, as the cheaper ones do not really seem to have the same 'kick' to them, and to be honest, I think that instant coffee is one of those things where "you get what you pay for".

Having tried several cheaper brands of coffee recently and being distinctly unimpressed, I made my mind up to try a better quality brand of coffee the next time I ran out.

My main reason for buying the Nescafe original coffee on the most recent occasion was however, the price! I was in my local Tesco supermarket getting a few bits and pieces, one of which was tea bags. As they are situated in the same aisle as the coffee, I couldn't help but notice a huge sign which could be seen proudly boasting about the special offer price of the Nescafe original coffee.

The jar of Nescafe was indeed a special offer, and was priced at only three pounds for a rather large jar. I regularly pay around £1.90 for a small jar of Tesco's own brand coffee which is ok, although nothing special.

As I have bought the Nescafe original coffee on and off for several years now, I am familiar with the brand. To be honest, it is by no means my favourite brand, although I find that the quality is generally fairly high... or high enough for me anyway! :-D

Even though the coffee was not an item that was on my shopping list, I opted to buy it anyway due to the amount of coffee that we go through in my house! I knew that it would be used eventually and opted to buy it and put it away until such times as it was needed!

That time is now here dear dooyooers, and I am happy to report that I am overall quite happy with my purchase on this occasion.

The overall taste of the coffee is one that is quite rich. I think it would be quite easy to make your cup of coffee too strong by accident, if you put a little too much of the coffee granules in your cup. The coffee is not too strong for my own personal tastes, but I know that my partner finds the taste is a bit strong, and prefers something a little milder.

The coffee is very easy to make in the same way as other brands of instant coffee. You simply place a spoonful of coffee granules into your cup or mug, and then pour over some boiling water. You can then add milk and sugar to the lovely dark coloured coffee to suit your own tastes... easy peasy!

The aroma of the coffee is not at all over-powering and in fact I find it makes my mouth-water when the smell hits my nostrils! I always have loved the smell of fresh coffee, and the Nescafe version of my much-loved 'coffee aroma' is no exception.

The jar is, as I mentioned quite large in size, or at least it is much larger compared to other brands that I buy regularly! The size is 200g which I think is fantastic value for the three pounds that I paid for it.

The lid is a screw-top style, which I find easy to remove and replace, even though I have limited mobility in one of my hands. Underneath the plastic lid is a little layer of foil-type paper which will need to be removed or 'burst' before you can reach the coffee within the jar. I found this very easy to do, and managed it without much effort at all.

The glass jar is clear as are most other brands of coffee, so it is very easy to determine when you are running low and need to purchase a replacement jar.

The nutritional information on the reverse of the jar informs me that the coffee will provide me with 63 calories per 100g serving, and only 0.2g of fat. I cannot comment on whether this is good or bad, as I do not have an alternative jar of coffee at the moment to make any sort of comparison.

The label also states that there is a website available at www.nescafe.co.uk.

All in all, I would award it four stars, and would recommend it somewhat. It's definitely not my favourite, although it is a good runner-up! :-)

Summary: NOT MY FAVOURITE, BUT A CLOSE RUNNER-UP!

I buy a huge jar of this at my nearest pound shop....not my favourite brand, but it's by no means the worst either and one of these big jars lasts me ages.

Not a big fan of instant coffee, but Clipper do some palatable Fair Trade ones.
