Coffee and the advancement of Man
*********************************
Apparently coffee was discovered in 600AD in the Middle-East and didn’t arrive in Europe until the sixteenth century and we then introduced it to the rest of the world since at that time the British Empire ruled most of it.

It is therefore no surprise to realise that most of the scientific breakthroughs that we have made as inhabitants of the planet Earth have been after the invention of “The Brew”. Caffeine stimulates the brain’s cortex, which heightens mental activity. We all know that if you have one cup too many you turn into a Tasmanian devil and suddenly brilliant ideas come flowing from us in between trips to the loo.

Think about it, the discovery of flight, invention of the telephone, electricity, the motor car, rocket science, nuclear fission…all in a relatively short time following the discovery of the coffee bean. What did we discover before we had caffeine fuelling our cerebrums? …Fire, clay pots and basket weaving!!

Types of Coffee
***************
The typical first reaction of the human race when something in nature is discovered is to have our scientist’s mess with it and try to magnify whatever qualities it possesses to make it more potent. Unfortunately we also have people with artistic tendencies that have to make it more fashionable and thus the Espresso and Cappuccino were born. Flavoured Coffees followed shortly after.

But I don’t want to have to hunt for my coffee through layers of foam and when I find it I want coffee-flavoured coffee. There was a time that you could walk into a café and ask for a coffee, without the waitress going into a rap. They now look at you like you’re mad when you reply “no foam no flavour just a bean some hot water and a sugar”

Nescafe Original
**************
It’s a national favourite, its instant, it’s
coffee flavoured and there is no foam in sight. I always start my day with a cup because caffeine stimulates the brain and allows messages to pass more quickly, this increases speed of reaction and awareness, thereby setting me up ready for the morning ahead.

By nine-fifteen I am on my second cup and once more my awareness and reaction speed is increased once more. By my eighth cup later on in the day, I can pluck insects out of flight and say an entire sentence in less than a second and you know what…it feels good.

Nescafe Taste
***********
Coffee appreciation is judged on three levels by coffee manufacturers and consumers albeit we do it unconsciously, firstly is the smell or if you prefer “aroma”. The smell of Nescafe Original granules alone is enough to bring the light in my eyes as it is quite a strong smell unlike powder coffees where the smell is weak and elusive.

The taste is slightly acidic which give the coffee a sharp and slightly bitter or sour taste which can be adjusted obviously with adding sugar. I like a little bitterness in my brew so I only have one sugar because I like my coffee to bite back and because I smoke, my taste buds need a little more of a kick-start.

The last thing is the body of the coffee – how it feels in the mouth, i.e. whether it feels thick and substantive or whether it’s just like drinking water. Nescafe original in my opinion is quite thick tasting which means that it has a good body to it and combined with the smell and taste is a meal in itself.

Decaffeinated Coffee
********************
This is just silly in my opinion – why take a perfectly good drink and take away its magical properties. It’s like having an elixir of life without the ambrosia that will allow you to live forever. Although I like the taste of coffee, I consider this just an additional bonus to the caffeine rush that my brain receives. Besides which
, decaffeinated coffee still has 3mg of caffeine in it which is substantially less than the 60mg of an average cup of real coffee but all you “decaff” drinkers out there kidding yourselves that you don’t drink caffeine – think again.

Fair enough, you may be unaltered as all the coffee drinkers’ zip around the office and speak to each other at hyper-speed on their way to and from the bathroom. But whilst you still feel drowsy we are ready to stay awake for four years at a time and work on the next world changing invention.

Shopping Stuff
************
Nescafe Original comes in 50g for £1.75, 100g for £2.85, 200g for £5.65 or 300g for £8.30. Obviously prices vary I get mine in packs of 12 from Costco so I get them a lot cheaper than the corner shop prices above. In comparision to other coffess available on the marker it is extremely competitive and cheaper than most.

I have deliberately left out decaffeinated coffee as per the above, I think it is an insult to coffee and decaffeinated coffee drinkers will be first up against the wall come the revolution.

Summary
*******
For those that have had less than three cups, Coffee is good, especially Nescafe Original Granules, the taste is nice and strong, the body is full and substantive and it has a nice tangy bite to it, just don’t kill it too much with your milk and sugar.

For those that have had three cups or more this morning – Coffeeisgoodespeciallynescafeoriginalgranules.

Remember coffee is directly responsible for the rapid advance of civilisation, as we know it..we owe it everything.

I love coffee, but to be honest I'm more of a fresh coffee girl. When I can't be bothered with fiddling around Nescafe is my drug of choice. Cheers - great opinion!

Love the theory of coffee being behind mankind's biggest successes - what a great excuse to drink more ;)
