Advantages: Tastes great, and is gloopy
Disadvantages: A bit pricey, too much is sickly
We love hot chocolate. We've got Ovaltine, Options, Green & Black's, and this one, Aero Hot Choc. Up until recently we've always gone for the big tub of it, which is quite pricey, but recently I got this so I could have a hot choc at work.
You get 4 sachets in the box, which will set you back at just over £1. It works out at between 25p and 30p per drink or thereabouts, so it's not cheap in comparison to a lot of hot choc drinks, but you pay for the name, and I have to say that with this one you also pay for the chocolatey nature of it, too.
The colourful packaging is appealing, to start with, with the brown shades very rich and attractive. The fact that there's a picture of the top of a mug full of this, with frothing on top made me think that it was exaggeration, but when you add the boiling water to the sachet's contents in a mug, it really does froth. It froths a little more once you stir it, too.
The rich smell of Aero choc hits you straight away, although this is not a sickly rich, more like a smell which lets you know that the choc used is good quality, and that there's plenty of it. The taste confirms this, too. It's quite creamy, if anything, not thin and runny like a lot of hot choc mixes can be, and I suppose this is why you add in the whole sachet. I remember from having the tub that you need four heaped teaspoonfuls for one mug, so I imagine this is how they've portioned the sachets, too.
In terms of the ingredients and calorific content, you get 99 calories per sachet, 16.6g of fats and just under 3g of fat. 43% of the contents of the sachet are reduced fat drinking chocoolate, with the rest of the ingredients being standard for drinking chocolate, too, such as thickeners, flavourings and proteins. The thickeners seem to be key, here, with the thick effect of the hot choc, and it's almost like drinking a hot Frij, those gloopy cold flavoured milk drinks.
I highly recommend these. They can be a bit sickly if you have them too often, but I feel that a good mug of this is calming and relaxing, and it tastes great. It's not the cheapest hot chocolate, but then a brand name choc is never going to be, and it's not the most expensive out there. Give this one a go, perhaps buy the sachets first and have one at your convenience, but I would say that if you really like it and want it more regularly, get a tub of it, which would work out as cheaper in the long run. The drink is also available in mint aero flavour. That'll be next up for me, I think!
Summary: Great hot choc
