Advantages: lovely in tea
Disadvantages: not so nice in coffee
I first came across coffee mate at work. One of the lasses always used to drink it in her coffee and swore by it so one shopping trip I decided to give it a go. I'm not to sure why I bought it to be honest because I am not a big coffee drinker and prefer tea, in her opinion it was also perfect in tea.
The description:
The tub I bought was one of the smaller ones that's contains 200 grams (approximately 30 servings).
The tub is gold in colour and pretty standard. It has a picture of coffee on the front and all the necessary required information round the sides.
The product:
When I opened the coffee mate I noticed that it was a very fine off white coloured powder. The powder has no smell. Coffee mate is a substitute to milk and it advises that you add 2 heaped scoops to coffee or tea in my case.
After I added the 2 scoops I had my first taste and I was very impressed. The coffee mate definitely added a creamier taste to my tea. The tea tasted a lot smoother and it was much more enjoyable that drinking with milk. In a way it reminded me of the taste you get when you use long life milk in tea.
For this review I decided to add some coffee mate to a cup of coffee and see what the results turned out to be. Unfortunately I couldn't really see that much difference to adding milk. The coffee didn't taste creamier although it did have a rather stranger taste. In the future whenever I do fancy a coffee I will stick to milk.
The price:
I purchased my coffee mate from the co-op and it cost £1.29 I would definitely shop around though, as I know you can buy this cheaper.
Overall:
I am very impressed with the taste coffee mate adds to a cup of tea but not too impressed to the flavour it gives coffee. I would definitely recommend anyone to try this product. If you want to be a tad healthier you can also purchase coffee mate light which has fewer calories than the original.
Summary: adds a lovely smooth flavour to tea
