Advantages: lasts long, makes my coffee smooth and delicious
Disadvantages: none
I bought Nestle's Coffee Mate Original about a month ago in Sainsbury's. I use it regularly but today is the day when I have enough time to write a review about it.
I wanted to bake Hokkaido milk-loaf and I needed some milk powder in it. I was wondering which brand to choose, but as I trust Nestle products I decided to buy this one. At the end of my review I will share the recipe of this wonderful milk-loaf. Unfortunately I have no photos, but next time I bake it I will make some photos and I'll enclose.
So back to this great product, I tried it in coffee as well. It has very nice texture. Some of the milk powders collect moisture from the air and become sticky. This won't happen to Coffee Mate, or at least not in a month. I use it when I bake buns, so I open the tub 2-3 times a day. It is still perfect. It has no smell at all.
The tub is light brown and there is a cup of coffee on it. It has thick cream on the top of it and the cream is coming from a heart shaped tub. Actually only the heart is visible, I just think it is a tub. It is said below the cup of coffee: "For creamier tasting coffee". I bought a 500 g tub for 1.76 pounds which is a friendly price.
Nestle apart this Original Coffee mate product manufactures also Virtually Fat Free version, Coffee Mate Latte Creations Double Choca Mocha, Coffe Mate Latte Creations Classic. I have to admit, I haven't tried these ones as I used only half of it. I need to put only one teaspoon into my coffee and 2 spoons into my buns, so it lasts long.
If you read my review on Saeco coffee maker, you know that I'm a coffee addict, but I drink only good quality and well made coffee. So for me the milk or milk powder is important as well. This one makes my coffee smooth and creamy. Usually we drink our coffee with milk. One day I ran out of milk, so I added Coffee Mate to it. My husband asked how I prepared it because it is much better then the one he can prepare. I told him the secret. Since then we drink our coffee with Coffee Mate. It is really great.
Ingredients: Glucose Syrup, Vegetable Oil, Stabilisers (Dipotassium Phosphate, Trisodium Citrate, Sodium Hexametaphosphate), Milk Proteins, Emulisifers (Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acids Esters of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids, Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Anti-Caking Agent: Silicon Dioxide, Colour: Riboflavin.
Well, it has some artificial things in it, so milk would be healthier but this one tastes much better in our coffee! I haven't tried in tea, as I drink only fruit tea (without sugar, milk or lemon juice).
And the Hokkaido milk-loaf recipe as I promised:
Ingredients in the order I drop them in my bread maker:
150 g double cream
250 g warm milk
1 egg
30 g milk powder
9 g salt
120 g sugar
60 g plain flour
540 g bread flour
7 g dried yeast
When the bread maker finished the dough programme, I put some oil on my pastry plate, spread it well all over it and put on it the dough. I stretch it. I cut it in stripes as wide as my dough baking tin. You can spread cocoa, dried fruits, Nutella, almond chips or what you have at home. You can put different things in all of them, then roll them up, and place them in the baking tin. Place the dough to a warm place and wait until doubles its size, then bake it in preheated oven on 175 C until it has nice brown colour.
Summary: Try my Hokkaido milk-loaf recipe
